Introducing… The New Matthew Bellamy

I’m having a bit of trouble dealing with this, but it seems MUSE’s Matthew Bellamy (the object of my long-term, totally platonic affection) is going for a very bold new look and sound, and I’m not sure how I feel about it.  It’s definitely new and different, but I think he may have gone too far.

Of course, the part that matters most (to me, at least) is the new sound… it’s unreal.  In fact, many say that he sounds a lot like Gwen Stefani.  Hear it for yourself with the new version of their second single off Black Holes and Revelations, “Starlight”.  Trust me, you won’t believe your ears.

Now, of course, you’re probably wondering… what about the new look?  I think that’s perhaps the most disturbing part…

Oh, Matthew… Just because you might sound like Gwen, it doesn’t mean you have to look like her, too.

To state the obvious for the oblivious, yes, it’s an altered image.  Furthermore, I’m not claiming to have discovered that Matthew Bellamy’s voice, when run through a pitch shifter, results in an eerie feminine voice that closely resembles Gwen Stefani’s.  In fact, even Gwen herself has addressed this meme and performed a cover of “Knights of Cydonia” in concert. I just did this for my own amusement, as usual.
